After reading this book I couldn’t wait to read more. Murder mysteries aren’t my usual read but the story was fun! The characters as well as the twist and turns were easy to follow and remember. What I loved the most through it all though was the feeling of family and being immersed in Hawaiian culture. Big Brah and Umi are such a great team and I grew close to these characters. The evidence and story was perfectly written in a way you couldn’t guess who the murderer was and you couldn’t wait to find out.

I had the pleasure of living in Hawaii from 1991 until 1996 and most of that time I lived in the beautiful town of Waimanalo. Reading this book brought me back to the sounds of Hawaii and the true beauty of the people. A great cozy read that took me home again.

Hawaii 5.0 in novel form! This book was wonderful from start to finish. It begins on a fictional island when a wealthy woman hires Big Brah and his little brother Umi to solve her husband’s murder. Everyone on the island knows and loves Big Brah. They respect him. They trust him. They cooperate with him. His investigations help the island police force.
 

In true island fashion, such a serene and laid back feel. And that goes for Big Brah’s murder investigation. He has own style. He operates on his own time table. The attention to his customs and traditions stays steady throughout. And it was all just so comfortable. I want to live there!
 

The investigation introduces you to all kinds of characters, plot twists, motives, and scenarios. I never quite caught on as to who I really thought was the suspect. I definitely did not have it figured out.
 

No gore. No spice. This was 100% a cozy mystery of a whodunit. I am excited to join Big Brah and Umi in later books, as the author says they will absolutely be back. Just an all around good feeling novel. I did think Umi seemed a lot younger than he was supposed to be. So, I just changed his age in my version and kept reading. Lol
